Air Conditioning Repair Services

When your home or business central air conditioning system starts exhibiting problems there are a few simple, troubleshooting steps that one can do before picking up the phone to call a heating and air conditioning repair contractor.

There are two separate components in a central air conditioner: the condenser and the evaporator. The condenser unit is usually located outside the house on a concrete slab while the evaporator coil is mounted in the plenum or main duct junction above the furnace.

Central air conditioners are made up of two separate components: the condenser unit,
located outside the house on a concrete slab, and the evaporator coil above the furnace.

Central air conditioners need professional maintenance, but there are a few minor problems that can be easily fixed. The following chart can be used to troubleshoot for possible do-it-yourself repair jobs. Caution: Both the evaporator and the condenser are sealed and will need the expertise of a professional service person for almost any maintenance other than routine cleaning.CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONER TROUBLESHOOTING CHART

Sometimes the problem might be related to the air conditioning coolant which is usually Freon. If the system does not contain the proper amount of Freon, little or no cooling will take place. A home or business owner should never try to add refrigerant to the system. Call a professional air conditioning repair technician to recharge the system. Caution: Do not try to charge your system’s refrigerant lines.

Another cause for cooling problems can be damaged or worn coolant lines which would cut down on the cooling efficiency of the unit. To repair the system’s coolant lines examine the lines running from the condenser outside the evaporator inside the house. If the insulation appears damaged or worn they should be replaced with new insulation of the same type as soon as possible. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for installation.

If all of the above checked out and the problem persists, the next best thing to do is to call an air conditioning repair contractor to diagnose the problem. To avoid damaging the system which could result in higher repair costs, home and business owners should never try to work on the unit or system themselves if at all possible.
